Where There' Smoke by John Heffernan

The Victorian Bushfires that exploded on Februray 7th 2009 were the most ferocious and deadly Australia had ever seen. That day will be forever known as Black Saturday.

John Heffernan is a farmer and writer who knows of the devastation fire can cause, the sadness, personal loss and devastation of these fires in Victoria were partly his inspiration for writing this book.

John captures the courage and camaraderie of ordinary people within a community when faced with a disaster. The book is set is an fictitious town but the front cover is of an actual photo taken from Black Saturday.

“Disasters can emotionally destroy the survivors and lead to a life of endless suffering. But they can also make people stronger – stories of hope rising form the ashes”  John Heffernan

There’s smoke over the hills, but nobody in Edenville seems too concerned, even though it’s fire season and the bush is tinder-dry. Luke has made friends in this town, his mum has found a job she likes, and it’s starting to look as if they’ll stay for a while. But Luke knows that good things don’t last, and everything he has come to rely on is threatened by a much bigger event, one that could destroy everyone and everything.
